THE MONEY

So... it looks like we're cutting workforce money at a bad time.

Congress does Congress things, DOL gets official leaders in a weird week, and this week's workforce grants listings.

Streamline’s AI-powered Discover platform helps organizations find grants that fit their work more easily and helps them reduce the time it takes to apply. I used Streamline to help put together listings for my paid subscribers—it’s a great tool that makes the hard work of finding grants much easier.

Toplines

  • So one version of this lede used the phrase “Burn Everything Bus.” On one hand, maybe no shutdown? On the other, the bill before the Senate cuts $75 million from a Department of Labor fund for mass layoffs—as layoff announcements explode—and substantially cuts other DOL funds that can respond to the workforce needs created by The Burn Everything Bus.

  • Elsewhere the Trump Administration also is cutting staff and making non-DOL workforce grants feel even more perilous. The Department of Education halved its workforce, reportedly cutting an entire office focused on grantee relations. EPA Chief Lee Zeldin is trying to terminate $20 billion in Biden-era projects in some ways that should trouble future financial assistance recipients.

  • The grant listings below are still at $2+ billion, but the last Biden grant deadlines start expiring in the next few days, leaving the question of what’s next. If you missed it, I have written a little about quiet changes to DOL dollars since the last Grants Friday edition. I wouldn’t take these shifts as the new trend just yet—a new secretary just got in the building—but the changes de-prioritized connecting workers to jobs that pay well and provide benefits.

    • Closing in the next week: Pathway Home 6 (today), Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (Monday), and behavioral health dollars in Maine and Illinois.

    • Modified and extended deadline: HHS’s Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training Program for Paraprofessionals.

Behind the paywall

  • DOL’s new leadership, DOGE, and weirdness.

  • More than $2 billion in federal, state, and private grants listings.
